Darling corner

Balmain

Originally built in 1912, this old milk bar was in desperate need of a refurb. The original parapet façade wall was retained and restored, with the residential lobby providing articulation between new and old.

The project involved the adaptive re-use of the building as a mixed-use development with two retail stores, and the addition of car parking and three apartments.

The heritage character of the building has been enhanced by utilising contrasting materials in both colour and texture as well as new works being set back from the original to further demonstrate the distinction.
